Teddy and Mrs. Thompson (Reflection)

Teddy and Mrs. Thompson's story serves as an important reminder of the influence that educators could have on students' lives. When Mrs. Thompson learned about Teddy's terrible past about losing his mother and being abandoned by others, she began to see him as more than an ordinary kid and witnessed that he needed love and support more than anything else. Teddy's life transformed as a result of that change in her perspective, which helped her to treat him with care and kindness. Under her care, Teddy succeeded, and years later, he honored her as one of the individuals who contributed to his success. We may learn about the value of empathy, compassion, and second chances from this story. It serves as a reminder that people frequently encounter unseen struggles and that a small act of kindness can have a profound impact. Mrs. Thompson's experiences further demonstrates how allowing ourselves to be more understanding of others contributes to personal progress. As we mo...

A Teacher's Heart

Image
The story of Teddy and Mrs. Thompson really gets to me. It's not just about good grades and test scores, it's about seeing the person behind the student. Teddy, at first glance, seemed like just another student who didn't care, another student who was drifting through school. But Mrs. Thompson saw something more. She saw a student struggling, maybe hiding behind a tough exterior, maybe just overwhelmed by things none of us knew about. She didn't just see a failing grade, she saw a student who needed a hand.   And that's what makes her such an amazing teacher. She didn't just teach him math or reading, she taught him that someone believed in him, that he mattered. She took the time to understand him, to connect with him, not just as a student, but as a person. And that's the real magic of the story, isn't it? It's not about some grand teaching method, it's about the simple act of caring, of seeing the human being behind the grades, and givin...

Unleashing Potential

Image
A reflection  "Teddy and Mrs. Thompson" is a story that resonates deeply with many teachers. It reminds us that knowing our students well is not just a good practice, but a fundamental responsibility. There's always a story behind every student's actions, and we must strive to understand those stories. Just because a student seems aloof or struggles academically doesn't mean they're not capable. There's usually a deeper reason for their behavior. Mrs. Thompson's dedication to Teddy, despite his initial resistance, is a powerful reminder that we must never give up on our students. We must get to know them, understand their challenges, and find ways to connect with them on a personal level. Teddy's transformation, from a seemingly unmotivated student to a successful one, shows the impact a caring and dedicated teacher can have. As teachers, we must also reflect on ourselves and ask why a student might not be improving in our class. What mista...

My Passion for Teaching: A Personal Philosophy

I believe that every child             -has the right to learn and to be educated             -views the world in their own unique perspective             -is special with their own individual abilities             -has a creative mind that nurtures their weaknesses and turns to be their strengths   I believe that there are things that remain constant and therefore cannot be taken away by others--- Education, which can be acquired through my diligent service and sharing my passion for teaching.   I believe that my task as a teacher is to extend my utmost potential and facilitate the development of every child holistically by:             -bringing out what’s the best to all my students with fairness ...

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My goal as a teacher is to help every student learn and grow to their full potential, so they can have successful lives and contribute positively to the world. I know that every student is different. They learn at different speeds, in different ways, and have different interests. That's why it's important for me to understand each student individually, figuring out what motivates them and how they learn best. This aligns with the idea of differentiated instruction, where teachers tailor their lessons to the unique needs of each learner. I'll create a classroom where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported, a place where they can learn from each other as well as from me. This echoes John Dewey's philosophy of education, which emphasizes creating a supportive and interactive learning environment. This means creating lessons that are engaging and relevant to their lives, and making sure there are opportunities for them to work together and learn from each other...

Strike While The Iron Is Hot (A Learning Philosophy)

Image
The joy of growing up is we learn things fresh as we breathe every second. As we, unknowingly, traced our ABC's and 123's and the next thing we know is that the world is bigger and wider. Fun, indeed, that learning and inculcating our minds touches far beyond our proximity control.          Learning is most effective when curiosity, motivation, and opportunity align. The saying "Strike while the iron is hot" emphasizes the importance of acting at the right moment—when enthusiasm is high, information is fresh, and the conditions are optimal for growth. This led me to note the following things to learn effectively and efficiently: Timely – Seize learning opportunities as they arise. Waiting too long may lead to loss of interest or relevance. Active – Engage with knowledge through practice, discussion, and application to solidify understanding. Adaptive – Be ready to recognize when an opportunity presents itself and adjust y...

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY by: Michelle I. Obera

Teaching is just like planting a tree that you do not have the assurance if you can harvest its fruit when it's ready. And a good teacher must be a good farmer, though it is not easy but a fulfilling one. I always believe in the saying that "once you are a teacher, you're always a student". And I can say that before you become a good teacher you are once a good learner. A good teacher must not afraid to learn new things instead you have to be ready for it. As I always bear in mind that being a teacher is not that easy, so I have to open my eyes for all the opportunities that will come for it will help me improve my skills in teaching. As a beginning teacher, I have to be passionate and dedicated for it will help me improve myself and boost my self-confidence. Being knowledgeable and confident in teaching will result into a fruitful labor.

Unlocking the Toolbox of Education: Thinking, Learning, and Growing Together

Image
Learning Revolution  Education can be seen as a way of passing on the values and knowledge of a society , like sharing what a group believes and has learned over time. It's a bit like when we learn how to fit in and be a part of our community, which social scientists call socialization or enculturation, according to Roland Lee Swink.  Martin Luther King Junior believed that education should teach us to think deeply and critically , aiming for a combination of intelligence and good character. This means education is not just about memorizing facts but also about understanding and questioning the world around us. Think of education as a big toolbox filled wi...

Let's just say that our get-to-know-you bingo game was much more thrilling than your average bingo night! We struck up discussions, found common ground, and even learned a little bit about one another. Before we started our journey together, it was a great way to get to know one another and create a community of learners. We're prepared to take on any obstacle now that we have new pals and a passion for learning in common.

Education: Through and through

But education is much more than that—it’s a lifelong journey that shapes who we are. Upon searching, below are some of the notable and impactful definitions of education: "Education is the process of living through a continuous reconstruction of experiences. It is the development of all those capacities in the individual which will enable him to control his environment and fulfill his possibilities." — John Dewey (1916) "Education is a human right and a public good, enabling individuals to develop their personality, talents, and abilities to their fullest potential." — UNESCO.org "By education, I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the child ...

Rethinking Education: A Harmonious Blend of Classic and Modern Perspective

   A.         Education is a complex idea that has been defined and redefined by many academics, philosophers, and educators. The following are some noteworthy definitions: 1. According to John Dewey's 1916 Democracy and Education , "Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself." 2. Paulo Freire (1970) stated in Pedagogy of the Oppressed that "Education is the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world." 3. According to Piaget (1950) , "Education is the process of learning to reason, to think, to understand, and to solve problems." 4. As stated in Benjamin Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives , "Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and values." 5. Malcolm Knowles (1970) stated in The Modern Practice of Adult Education that "Educa...

The Life of a Sophist

Image
Have you ever wondered when learning truly begins? It’s not just in classrooms or from textbooks—it starts the moment we open ourselves to new experiences and ideas. Learning is a lifelong process that pushes us to grow, adapt, and see the world from different perspectives. It’s not about perfection but progress, shaped by curiosity and a willingness to embrace mistakes. The more we learn, the more we understand that the journey is endless, that’s what makes it so powerful, and that's where the life of a sophist revolves.

The Strength of Shared Curiosity

Image
The Curious Mind's Guide to Connection We've all experienced the moment when your curiosity is aroused while you're deeply engaged in a book, seminar, or study endeavor. You want to study more, explore further, and solve the world's secrets. However, that trip can occasionally feel lonely. It's simple to become engrossed in our own personal interests and lose sight of the fact that there are numerous people who are as curious as we are. In reality, we're not alone. There is a huge community of inquisitive people that are ready to investigate, pick up knowledge, and share what they have found.
